![]() The datum point also marks the shortest distance between the selected point and the selected face or plane. ![]() Abaqus/CAE creates the datum point where the face or plane intersects a line that is normal to it and passing through the selected point, as shown in Figure 6. this is why people use so many datum planes, because they show up yellow and you can see where they're positioned without drawing anything first. Select a point and a face or plane on which to project the point. It's (by far) easier to do this when there are lines already drawn in the sketch before trying to remap it off of its initial XY/XZ/YZ orientation. then select Tangent to Surface mode, and you can rotate the sketch so its tangency is oriented the right way. You'll want the plane to be in Tangent To Surface mode to do that you'll have to select that inner radial face, and the second reference as one of the two vertices at the seam edge of that rotation (the order can be different but you have to set two explicit references). A datum line is that which has length but no breadth or depth, such as, an intersection line of two planes, centerline or axis of holes or cylinders and/or. to do that inside a sketch you'll use the Map Mode property in the Data tab of the combo view when you're outside of the sketch. It looks to me like you want to reference the inner face of the groove of the flange/seal plate or whatever you're drawing. it's an extra axis line in addition to the global XYZ, not "real" geometry of a shape. Detailed Solution Datum Line is the horizontal line to sea level from where all elevations and depths are measured. a datum line is always used outside of sketches as a reference to rotate around or make helixes along. ![]()
